It has taken me far too long but I’ve finally put all the footnotes back into The Children of Phoebe and George Whitman – using record analysis to establish relationships between various Whitman adults in Greenbrier County, VA before 1820. It’s one of my oldest articles and I’m really proud of the research it discusses – but it has over 105 footnotes (107 I think) and that’s A LOT of footnotes to rebuild. I realized as I did so that much of that work relied on secondary sources due to the lack of access to primary source materials such as court records being unindexed. I will go back a revisit the primary sources and possibly redo those sections. There is so much more available now – although court records are still unindexed (who am I kidding that will be a brutal project and NOT amenable to machine reading.) So check it out and then post a comment here. Still no comments on the McLeland-Wieser Family Blog – that’s my “publishing” blog.
